Bo Jai Fan – Pot of Rice cooked with Meat (Hong-Kong Style)

Recipe of an everyday version of Bo Jai Fan
Bo Jai Fan is a classic comfort food that is still very popular in Hong Kong

Bo Jai Fan is likely one of the most famous and well-loved comfort food in Hong Kong. It’s literally translated as “little pot rice” as it’s usually sold at restaurants as personal sized pot of rice cooked with different kinds of meat and toppings.

This recipe is meant to recreate this famous dish as a home-style, everyday version that you will feel great about making any day of the week. That’s way Kitty has chosen turkey minced meat and brown rice instead of the typical high-in-fatĀ minced beef and white rice. But the flavour is still all there. And because Bo Jai Fan in general takes more time to make, for practical reasons, this recipe is not for personal-sized but is meant to feed 4-6 people or you can make this once and save the rest for leftovers or the freezer.

List of ingredients for easy copy and pasting:

  • 400g (or 1 lb) of minced turkey meat
  • 2 cups of brown rice (cooked with 2.5 cups of water)
  • 3 eggs (optional)
  • 3 green onions (optional)
  • 1/3 cup of Cilantro (optional)
